Smith Leonard: Furniture orders up 3% and shipments flat from April 2025

New orders were down 4% and shipments were down 6% from March

HIGH POINT — New orders for residential furniture were up but shipments were flat compared with April 2025, according to the latest Furniture Insights report by Smith Leonard.

The report noted that new orders totaled $2.05 billion, up 3% from $2.01 billion in April 2025, with two-thirds of survey participants reporting increases. New orders were down 4% from $2.1 billion in March.

By comparison, shipments totaled $2.17 billion, level with April 2025 and up for about half of survey participants. Shipments were down 6% from $2.3 billion in March.

Backlogs totaled $2.36 billion, level with April 2025. They were down 1% from $2.4 billion in March.

Other highlights of the report were as follows:

+ Receivable levels were down 8% from April 2025 and down 5% from March.

+ Inventory levels were up 4% from April 2025 and level with March.

+ Payrolls were up 1% compared with April 2025 and down 2% from March.
