WASHINGTON — The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced that 800 dressers sold on Walmart.com are being recalled because of violations of a federal regulation for clothing storage units.
The recall involves the 12-drawer Gikpal dresser sold on Walmart.com by OnMe Direct. While no injuries or incidents have been reported, the CPSC said that the recalled units are unstable if they are not anchored to the wall, which can pose tip-over and entrapment hazards that can result in injuries or death to children. The CPSC said that they also violate performance and warning-label requirements of the STURDY (Stop Tip-Overs of Risky Dressers on Youth) Act.
The recall includes Gikpal 12-drawer dressers with model numbers HI1437_13, HI1437_14 or HI1437_02. Sold in rustic brown, black or white wood finishes with a black frame, fabric drawers and black handles, they are about 31 inches wide by 12 inches long and 48 inches tall, and weigh about 35 pounds. The model number, “Fabric Dresser” and “Made in China” are printed on the product packaging.
Made by Shenzhen Leader-Union Technology Co. Ltd. of China, they were imported by OnMe Direct of China and sold exclusively at Walmart.com from January 2024 through November 2024 for about $91.
The CPSC has advised consumers to immediately stop using the recalled dressers, if they are not properly anchored to a wall, and place them in an area that children cannot access. Consumers also can contact OnMe Direct for instructions on how to receive a full refund and also submit a photo of the consumer disposing of the product.
OnMe Direct and Walmart also are contacting all known purchasers directly.
