The digital-first company will open stores in California and Washington in the fall
VANCOUVER, British Columbia — Digital-first furniture company Article, based here, recently announced it will open brick-and-mortar stores in the U.S., starting on the West Coast.
According to a news release from the company, the U.S. is Article’s largest customer base, and California and Washington consistently rank among its top-performing states for e-commerce. To build on that momentum, Article will open its first U.S.-based stores in San Francisco and Bellevue, Washington, by the fall.
“We see physical retail as an extension of the business we built online and are approaching expansion with discipline,” said Aamir Baig, co-founder and CEO of Article. “The West Coast has always been core to our business and represents roughly a quarter of total purchases. It’s where our company is headquartered and where we built early infrastructure to support customer demand. Expanding our retail footprint to California and Washington is a natural next step.”
Article’s San Francisco store will open in the city’s Design District, known as a destination for furnishings and interior design. The Bellevue store will be inside the Bellevue Collection, a high-end shopping center located just outside Seattle. Both stores will offer free, on-site interior design services to help customers with room layouts and coordinating products. According to the company, its target customer is shoppers who are looking for “modern, well-designed furniture at accessible prices.”
Article occupies the mid-to-upper-mid-market segment, with the majority of its furnishings priced between $500 and $2,000. Its assortment also expands beyond that core range, with some entry-level decor items under $100 and some more premium items, like a kiln-dried hardwood frame sofa for $4,449.
The company’s decision to further expand its retail footprint follows the success of its first brick-and-mortar location. Article’s first store, which opened in Vancouver in August 2024, surpassed the company’s expectations and drove 47% of Article’s revenue growth in the Vancouver market in 2025. After the openings in San Francisco and Bellevue, Article plans to open additional stores by early 2027. Including its existing store in Vancouver and its forthcoming store in Toronto, the company plans to have five retail locations in the foreseeable future, although the fifth location has yet to be announced.
Article’s expansion of its retail footprint is part of a notable recent trend of digital-first brands opening brick-and-mortar stores. In early 2026, digital lighting manufacturer Gantri opened its first showroom in San Francisco, Meta turned its Meta Lab pop-up in New York City into a permanent retail location, and Montreal-based furniture brand Cozey announced North American expansion plans.
