Universal adds more than 60 new pieces to its Modern collection

HIGH POINT – Universal Furniture, known for its on-trend approachable designs for the whole home, will expand its highly popular Modern Collection with more than 60 new pieces during High Point Market, blending clean, hard lines with soft, organic forms.
While the collection is rooted in Modernist designs, its adaptability allows it to blend seamlessly into transitional spaces. Each piece in the collection stands out for its versatility, whether showcased in a bold, moody setting or paired with softer, more neutral décor.

“The Modern Collection from Universal is not just about aesthetics, but also livability and flexibility,” said Director of Marketing Kayla Miller. “We wanted to design a line that serves as a base for different interpretations, whether you’re leaning toward a conservative or glamorous look or something in between. It’s about making Modernism work for everyday life.”

A Story of Wood and Geometry

The additions to the Modern Collection focus heavily on wood-centric designs in sand-blasted oak veneers and oak solids that expose the grain. Two key finishes that anchor the line: Modern Sable, a rich medium-brown, and Modern Desert, a sandy light brown. Some new pieces feature intricate Dune and Valley design elements inspired by pieces at a Paris flea market, where drawer fronts and cabinet doors are carved into an undulated geometrical 3D form. Other design details include solid oak drawer fronts, rectangular pieces with a soft radius and rounded edges, and accent tables made of pyrite, also known as Fool’s Gold.

Key Pieces of the Collection

The Modern Collection is one that retailers and designers alike have embraced for its blend of modernity and everyday comfort. Notable additions include:

+ The shelter bed, a sophisticated upholstered bed with a minimally curved headboard and footboard framed by glossy wood trim. The airy cutout in the footboard adds a touch of lightness.

+ In the dining room, the round dining table set in oak has a concave pedestal base, balancing the boldness of its form with a soft undercut edge, perfect for adding a welcoming touch to any dining room. Two dining chairs offer sophisticated seating options: the Wood Arm Chair with splay legs and a cantilevered, floating upholstered back and the armless upholstered dining chair with an elegant profile and sled-style base.

The Dune credenza

Additions to the Modern collection also address storage needs with sophistication. The Dune bachelor chest features the Dune and Valley effect, adding texture and depth to the sleek form. Likewise, the Dune credenza, measuring more than seven feet long, highlights a Dune and Valley texture with touch-latch doors for effortless elegance.

Occasional pieces lean toward special occasions, with modern shapes and details that are unique while still functional. The Pyrite
cocktail table features two, offset semicircles of varying heights facing each other. The Origami chest ups the sophistication of the entire collection with its exterior made of brass cladding. The Stone credenza offers a different level of sophistication with white travertine stone doors and a metal case finish.
