Description: The Director of Development will be eager to lead a departmental transformation by applying commercial sales practices to our non-profit organization. They oversee the HFA sales strategy, sales automation, in-person sales processes, and sales and retention staff promoting all of HFA’s products and services including memberships, sponsorships, partnerships, advertising, and exhibit booths.

The Director of Development will manage a sales and account management team of four individuals that execute virtual and in-person sales and retention activities. The person in this role will build trusted relationships with stakeholders in the home furnishings ecosystem who engage meaningfully with our organization. They will also collaborate with marketing and program staff to help match prospects to the right marketing messaging and product and service offerings.

The Director of Development should embody the HFA company core values of high emotional intelligence, initiative, communication, accountability, and curiosity within the Entrepreneurial Operating System (EOS) management principles of leadership, management, and accountability.


Project Management

  • Advanced planning, time management, resource management, and task management
  • Advanced communication with stakeholders

  • Advanced staff direction, tool application, delegation, and big-picture understanding

Sales and Account Management

  • Advanced prospecting and funnel management

Member Service

  • Advanced discovery, problem solving, and member communication


  • Advanced ability with sales automation software (e.g. Salesforce, HubSpot)
  • Intermediate ability Proficient with Google Office (e.g. Docs, Sheets, Drive)

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or related field, OR
  • Comparable record of sales leadership experience required.
  • Over three years of sales experience, preferably in the association or furniture industry
