Weekends Only begins going-out-of-business sales at 8 store locations

ST. LOUIS — Weekends Only Furniture & Mattress is beginning a going-out-of-business sale for all its store locations, the company said this week. The company also said that owner Tom Phillips is retiring.

The store sales start Thursday, Jan. 26, and are being held at eight locations including four in St. Louis, one in Springfield, Missouri, two in Indianapolis, and one store in Fairview Heights, Illinois. The stores are at the following locations.

+ The Bridgeton sore at 11333 Blake Drive.

+ The South County store at 6303 S. Lindbergh Blvd.

+ The St. Peters store at 411 Mid Rivers Mall Drive.

+ The West County store at 14205 Manchester Road.

+ The Greenwood (Indianapolis) store at 8850 S. Emerson Ave.

+ The Castleton (Indianapolis) store at 8315 Center Run Drive.

+ The Springfield, Missouri, store at 3850 S. Campbell Ave.,

+ The Fairview Heights, Illinois, store at 51 Commerce Lane.

Details, including hours of the store closing sales, can be found at www.weekendsonly.com.

The company said that the sale offers large discounts on a wide selection of furniture and mattresses. Home accessories are being offered at 35% off and heirloom quality rugs are available at 65% off.

The retailer, which first announced it was closing all locations this past November, was first opened in 1997 in St. Louis by brothers Tom and Dave Phillips. It was one of the first stores in the U.S. to operate on an abbreviated schedule of Friday through Sunday only, as part of a strategy to reduce costs and pass along the savings to customers. Its stores offered brand name furniture that was on display in large warehouse-type showrooms and for years the company prided itself on its “friendly, no-hassle customer experience.”

Over the years, the company was considered a generous donor to St. Vincent de Paul Society, Newman Center at Washington University and United Way.

Following the store closing sales, the company will close permanently.
