HIGH POINT — Furniture orders and shipments rose from June 2025, offering a welcome rebound in the early summer months as the industry headed into the second half.
According to the latest Furniture Insights report from Smith Leonard, new orders for residential furniture rose 11% to $2.26 billion, from $2.05 billion in June 2025. About two-thirds of survey participants reported increases versus decreases during this period.
By comparison, new orders were down 5% from $2.36 billion in May.
Shipments rose at a slower pace, up only 3% to roughly $2.2 billion, from $2.12 billion in June 2025 and up for about 60% of survey participants. By comparison, shipments were about level with $2.2 billion in May.
For the first six months of the year, new orders rose 4% to $12.94 billion, from $12.55 billion and shipments were flat at $13.1 billion.
Backlogs totaled $2.64 billion, up 11% from $2.4 billion in June 2025 and up 2% from $2.52 billion in May.
Other highlights of the report are as follows:
+ Receivables were down 1% from June 2025 but were up 2% from May.
+ Inventories were up 2% from June 2025 but were down 2% from May.
+ The number of factory workers and warehouse employees were down 4% from June 2025 and level with May.
+ Payroll expenses was up 4% from June 2025 but level with May.
