Gustafson’s Furniture & Mattress goes out of business after 98 years

ROCKFORD, Ill. — Family-owned Gustafson’s Furniture & Mattress is going out of business after 98 years. The final liquidation sale opened to the public May 14, and the building is for sale.

The family-owned and operated retailer has chosen to partner with leading furniture promotional sales specialists Planned Furniture Promotions (PFP) to manage its final sales event.

“We’re honored to be working with the Gustafsons to bring a successful close to a great business nurtured by the family and dedicated employees for nearly 100 years,” said Roy Hester, senior vice president of PFP.

Gustafson’s Furniture & Mattress has been a trusted destination for quality whole-home furnishings since Martin Gustafson founded it in 1928. Its three-generational story spans over a century of growth, with notable expansions and relocations. Current owner Dale Gustasfson, Martin’s son, is retiring after 50 years in the business.
