Company will rebrand new and existing stores as Queen City Home Store in January 2025
CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Queen City Audio Video & Appliances has acquired six former Badcock Home Furniture & More locations in North Carolina and South Carolina as part of a rebranding initiative set to take place in early 2025.
The stores, along with its locations in Charlotte, Winston-Salem, Salisbury, Pineville, Monroe and Greensboro, North Carolina, will be renamed Queen City Home Store early next year. In addition to furniture, the stores will continue to offer an extensive line of appliances, electronics, mattresses and outdoor products such as grills.
The company said the initial rollout of new stores will be in the Fayetteville, Durham, Burlington, Goldsboro and Rockingham, North Carolina, and Columbia, South Carolina, communities where Badcock had a presence. It also said it has plans for further expansion.
Having hired former Badcock executive David Horvath as furniture category manager earlier this fall, the company said it plans to broaden its product selection, “including a more robust furniture selection, enhancing Queen City’s ability to provide customers with a convenient, one-stop shop for all their home needs.”
In addition to Horvath, the company said it has hired former Badcock franchise owners Evan Sides and Justin Klinegardner as well as Luis Nater, also a former franchise owner. It said that together, they will play a major role in “advancing the company’s strategic initiatives with the Hispanic community.”
It also has hired David Orrico, a former regional manager at Nationwide Marketing Group to support sales, merchandising and operations for all markets.
“With the addition of this skilled team, Queen City is poised to strategically expand into these markets across the Carolinas,” the company said.
The company also noted that it has developed a comprehensive onboarding process to “ensure a seamless transition for many of the existing Badcock employees, with the goal of opening the newly branded stores under the Queen City banner by January 2025.”
“We look forward to welcoming customers into the newly branded stores and continuing our mission of helping our guests select the right home products to enhance their everyday living,” said Roddey Player, Queen City’s president and chief executive officer.
Queen City was founded in 1952 by Woody Player and today features products from more than 70 brands. In addition to its brick-and-mortar store network, it has an e-commerce platform as well as a 104,000-square-foot warehouse in Charlotte that offers customer pick-up services for in-stock product. It was ranked No. 36 among the Top Major Appliance Retailers in the U.S. by Twice Magazine this year.
