CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Ikea U.S. has announced plans for a new Plan & order point with Pick-up located in Charlotte, NC, which is set to open in summer 2024. Located in the Promenade on Providence shopping center, the company said this new format concept aims “to bring the Ikea experience closer to Charlotte customers and will focus on providing interior design planning with Ikea experts.”
The Ikea South Charlotte Plan & order point with Pick-up is one of many new format stores that are part of the growth strategy for Ikea U.S. — increasing accessibility to the brand and ensuring there are more ways to meet customers where they are and how they like to shop.
It is different from the traditional large-format Ikea stores as it gives customers the opportunity to meet with Ikea store associates to plan and order home furnishing solutions that require a bit more help, such as kitchens, bedrooms, and bathrooms. It will only offer items for delivery, and arrangements will be made to have all items conveniently transported to a customer’s home or to another convenient point of delivery.
“The goal is simple: bring the Ikea experience closer to our customers,” said Javier Quiñones, chief executive officer and chief sustainability officer, Ikea U.S. “We’re excited to introduce the Ikea South Charlotte Plan & order point with Pick-up, making our home furnishing products and solutions more convenient, accessible and, above all, affordable.”
Ikea has been in the Charlotte market for fifteen years, having opened the first store in the market in 2009. Ikea South Charlotte will occupy 15,000 square feet of leased retail space in an outdoor lifestyle shopping center called Promenade on Providence at 10844 Providence Road, Charlotte, NC. While the company said customers will still need to visit Ikea Charlotte for their favorite meatballs and Ikea food offerings, now, with the addition of Ikea South Charlotte, “affordability and convenience are within reach for the entire metropolitan area.”
“We’re thrilled to announce the opening of a new Ikea location this summer, extending a warm welcome to customers in the Charlotte Metro area,” said Kristien Verbeke, market area manager, Ikea U.S. “From easy access to public transportation and flexible delivery options to affordable design services, our Plan & order point with Pick-up concept is all about catering to the needs of our local community.”
This is the fifth new format store that Ikea has announced this year, with more to come. In addition to opening new Plan & order points in city centers, Ikea U.S. has made significant investments to enhance its e-commerce experience and service offerings, including new Ikea family benefits, lower priced shipping and delivery, Click & collect, and TaskRabbit assembly services.
