Furniture retail buyer Sam Webb dies at 80

BLOUNTVILLE, Tenn. — Longtime furniture retailer Samuel E. Webb died Sunday Oct. 2 at his home here surrounded by family. He was 80.

The son of Haskell Blake Webb and Sara Beatrice Webb, he was born in Blountville and lived there most of his life.

A graduate of Blountville High School, he pursued a degree in Business Administration at Eastern Tennessee State University in Johnson City.

He went on to pursue a career in the furniture industry, working as a buyer at Ball Brothers/Reliable Stores, Heilig-Meyers and Aaron’s. He retired in 2015 after 64 years of service. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing and golfing.

He attended Realife Church in Bristol, Tennessee.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 53 years, Carolyn Smith Webb, his parents, Haskell and Sara Web and his sister, Sandra Kay Pope.

Surviving family members include his daughter and son-in-law Taisa W. Steenbergen and Rodger D. Steenbergen; a brother, Randall Blake Webb; grandchildren, Steven M. Steenbergen (Kimberly), T.J, Steenbergen (Kim); great-grandchildren, Caleb Steenbergen, Caitlyn Steenbergen, Kimyiah Steenbergen, Walker Steenbergen and Analiyah Steenbergen and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 4 p.m. -6 p.m. Sunday, October 9, 2022 in the Chapel of East Tennessee Funeral Home, 2630 Highway 75, Blountville. A memorial service will follow at 6:00 pm with Pastor Joel Kirk officiating and Eulogies presented by Taisa and Rodger Steenbergen.
