Decor-Rest acquisition strengthens its position in domestic fabric, leather upholstery

WOODBRIDGE Ontario — Décor-Rest Furniture’s purchase of two domestic Canadian upholstery brands is expected to further strengthen the company’s position across the stationary upholstery segment.

The Canadian upholstery manufacturer on Monday announced its acquisition of Superstyle Furniture and Trend-Line Furniture. Like Décor-Rest, these manufacturers produce sofas, sectionals as well as accent and occasional seating.

While Trend-Line primarily offers stationary fabric sofas, sectionals and accent seating, Superstyle has a mix of fabric and leather options.

Décor-Rest also offers a mix of fabrics and leathers across a wide variety of styles in sofas, sectionals, chairs, sofa sleepers, ottomans and upholstered headboards.

Décor-Rest did not reveal a purchase price, but said it has acquired the brands, the facilities and the operations of both domestic manufacturers.

With a projected growth in capacity of 35%, the purchase also will expand the Décor-Rest manufacturing base to about 400,000 square feet and some 450 workers.

Décor-Rest President and CEO JR Marzilli was not immediately available for comment.

But in a statement, he said, the companies have similar histories and corporate cultures that provide distinct advantages by “being close to our home base. This ensures efficient turnaround and will help us address increased demand. Additionally, the investment in human capital benefits all the Decor-Rest employees and team members who have all been working very hard during the pandemic, as well as the employees of the acquired companies with an easy transition. We look forward to welcoming all of them to the Decor-Rest family.”

Management with Trend-Line and Superstyle also were pleased with the deal announced Monday.

“Our family of furniture companies have been successful for more than 50 years because of the dedication, values and entrepreneurial spirit of our founders, my late father, Giovanni Colalillo and his brother Dominic Colalillo, and the commitment and support from our employees, dealers and suppliers which we are truly thankful for,” says Danny Colalillo, president, Superstyle Furniture and Trend-Line Furniture. “Now, the agreement that has been reached with the Decor-Rest Group of Companies to acquire Superstyle Furniture and Trend-Line Furniture guarantees the strong legacy of our family-founded Canadian companies and will help meet the increasing demand of consumers for decades to come.”

“Given the global supply challenges, domestic products are in higher demand than ever before,” Marzilli noted. “The Decor-Rest group of companies will now be better able to supply products out of the combined facilities with additional employees who are already well-versed in the production of quality upholstered furniture products. This will enable us to meet our dealers’ ever-increasing demand with shorter lead times to provide quality, fashionable furniture and continue the legacy of what Decor-Rest products have come to mean to our customers.”

“Through seamlessly aligning efficiencies within the organization, we are looking forward to working closely with our new team members and expanding our strong, supportive and well-structured team while transitioning as seamlessly as possible into a single, unified, customer-driven company serving the needs of our industry,” he added. “We are confident that these mergers along with our promise to uphold our trademark values of love and honesty will ensure an even brighter future for Decor-Rest as our wonderful team and customers continue to grow and prosper.”
