BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — On December 20th, the Ashley HomeStores team at Red Mountain Retail spread out across the state delivering Christmas dinners to families in need.
16 years ago, Woody Marks, President and Owner of Red Mountain Retail hosted his 1st Basket Brigade with his employees at his Huntsville, Alabama HomeStore. He and his employees look forward to the hands-on opportunity to work in their community every year.
“After another year of uncertainty, we increased the number of families that we wanted to feed. The eagerness of our employee volunteers is such a joy to witness,” said Woody Marks. “Plus, this year, we were joined with additional hands in our community. The Jefferson County Commissioners joined with us and the Christian Service Mission in our Fultondale store for a send off and to help deliver meals.”
At the kick off event, District 2 commissioner Sheila Tyson addressed the group, “Thank you. We appreciate you, Mr Marks. The citizens fully understand what you’re doing in the community.”
According to Jimmie Stephens, District 3, Woody Marks and Ashley have “have embraced the community and fed families that we wouldn’t have been able to service otherwise.”
Since its inception, the Basket Brigade has provided complete Christmas meals for over 4200 families in Alabama. The baskets include everything needed to prepare a complete Christmas dinner including turkeys that are provided by Tempur-Sealy our partner. Local non-profit organizations including the Christian Service Mission and the Manna House provide the names of the families with needs. Marks and his team deliver the meals straight to the homes of the families.
