HIGH POINT — A year ago, no one could have predicted that a global pandemic would transform “Home” into the number one destination for work, play, rest, dining, entertainment and socializing, thereby changing the way the goods that furnish our living environments are designed, displayed and sold.
This week in High Point, we’re getting a good luck at exactly that — COVID’s impact on the industry, and the subtle design shifts that are taking place.
This week in High Point, Ann Gish & The Art of Home unveiled its new line of washable, everyday-elegance bedding.
For example, there’s the durability factor: Washability is now a big plus, as is the ability to stand up to more wear and tear. Outdoor fabrics and rugs are popping up in indoor settings, outdoor upholstery looks like indoor upholstery, luxe textiles are bearing “washable” tags, and leather is gaining ground as a performance option.
Barclay Butera’s new Park City and Carmel collections for Lexington Home Brands incorporate quartered white oak, layered textiles, burnished bronze, white marble, faux horn and caramel leather.
There’s a noticeable amount of space-making white at this week’s market, especially in furniture and bedding. But there’s also a strong showing of warm amber and caramel tones, and a softer palette overall in the accents and accessories categories. It’s a very blue/green market, with dusty tones of teal and aqua playing a leading role.
Universal Furniture is introducing a number of additions to its home office category.
In accent and occasional furniture, desks are front and center, amped up with functionality, style, and a wide range of materials, finishes, add-ons and coordinating pieces. Lucite, glass, shiny metallics and shagreen are paired with sculptural hardware, lined drawers and tassel pulls.
Faceted crystal lamps, Global Views. The company is also introducing a collection of faceted crystal wall decor, reversible trays and candle holders, the designs of which are based on an antique crystal cigarette box.
Decorative accessory displays shine with crystal clarity and semi-precious sparkle, as artisanal glass and faceted crystal dress up the tabletop, barware and dimensional wall décor categories, as well as accent table bases, shadow-box frames and mounts, and lamps.

Lighting manufacturers continue to push the limits at both ends of the spectrum – putting LED to work in swirling displays of illuminative art, and/or reclaiming traditional methods of metal- and wood-working to create hanging masterpieces.
KingsHaven’s hand-hammered and forged fixtures, The Fleur (front) and Thames (rear), are two of the fixtures in the company’s debut collection of crafted and custom lighting, showing at Woodbridge Furniture’s showroom.
Accent seating, and especially club chairs, are trending wider, rounder and cushier, arms have heft, and velvet is sharing the space with boucle, faux fur, chenille and wide wale corduroy.
