FD Home expands New Beginnings paper and melamine program

Line is adding 8 new bedrooms and 2 new dining sets

HIGH POINT — Case goods resource FD Home is expanding its New Beginnings paper and melamine bedroom program with eight new bedroom groups with step-up features and designs.

The lineup has several groups in two finishes featuring case pieces with embossed melamine tops that are waterproof and scratch resistant and three-dimensional paper laminates on MDF on the sides, drawer fronts and bed panels. The paper laminates are also pressed onto beaded and fluted moldings and other details on case pieces and bed frames.

Case pieces also feature ball-bearing slides on French dovetailed drawers, while nightstands also are equipped with USB A&C ports for charging electronics.

These introductions this market follow on the heels of five previous groups that are now in production, including one that is now shipping and four others expected to ship soon.

The new styles are largely transitional in nature and include:

+ Mayberry which is in a Honey Oak color and Mayberry II in a dark gray tone called Ashed Oak. Both finishes have a sliced oak grain pattern. Each group also includes a bed featuring a wood frame surrounding two inset upholstered panels.

+ Alaina, which is in a Caramel Pecan finish on a sliced pecan pattern, and also features a bed with a wood framed upholstered panel.

+ West End, which is in a Wheat Oak color on a sliced oak wood pattern. It has a panel bed featuring a headboard with built-in shelf and case pieces with a fluted design on the drawer fronts.

+ Axis I is in a Graystone Oak color on a sliced oak pattern. It has a panel bed with a framed wood headboard and footboard. Axis II is in a Smoked Oak color on a sliced oak wood pattern.

+ Cherry Grove is in a Cherry tone on a textured oak grain pattern, and Sugar Grove is in a Vintage White color on a textured grain pattern.

Two dining sets each in two finishes also are available featuring tables and side pieces with embossed melamine tops that are stain, heat, scratch and moisture resistant.

They include:

+ Harlen I, which is in a light natural 3D wood grain pattern, and Harlan II, featuring a darker tone with a black walnut 3D wood grain pattern.

+ Metro, which is in a Natural Oak color, and Metro II, which is in a Black Oak pattern.

Table and four chair sets are targeted to retail from $649 to $699.

The company also has two veneered bedrooms, including Heritage Hills, an updated traditional group made with knotty oak veneers and wire-brushed poplar solids in a finish called Oak Lodge. It includes a wood panel bed. The second is a soft contemporary group called Denmark, which is made with walnut veneers and poplar solids in a Tung Oil Walnut finish. The bed has two inset upholstered panels.

In the past, the company showroom in Space 113 of Centers of High Point on Centennial mainly featured wood bedroom and dining sets. However, because of the success of the New Beginnings program launched last fall — with five in production including one currently shipping and four others set to ship in about 30 days — the company and some customers see high value in the laminate and melamine groups.

Also, with tariffs and increased ocean freight, the company said it is getting harder and harder to hit a sweet spot of $1,999 to $2,499 on bedroom sets. Thus, for retailers looking to advertise at those price points and below, these sets offer a compelling alternative.

“The customer has to chase different product at different price points,” noted President Steve York, of the need to offer different options in the line.
