LOWELL, Ark. ― J.B. Hunt Transport Services, a publicly held trucking and supply chain logistics company serving furniture and other industries, has acquired the assets of Mass Movement for an undisclosed amount.
It’s J.B. Hunt’s fourth final-mile-related acquisition since 2017. Mass Movement has more than 20 years experience providing logistics, delivery, assembly and installation services for the commercial finish industry, with 2019 revenue of $29 million.
In a release announcing the deal, John Roberts, president and CEO of the publicly held J.B. Hunt, said Mass Movement “presents an opportunity to expand our expertise in the final mile delivery of big and bulky products.
“The acquisition complements our current service and will enhance our ability to meet the growing demand of customers in the commercial health and fitness industry.”

Founded by Dom Simonetti and Jim Sullivan in 1996, Mass Movement has delivered more than 2 million pieces of equipment to more than 3,500 fitness centers throughout North America. Both founders will become employees of J.B. Hunt and continue in leadership roles as the company expands its fitness equipment delivery business.

The acquisition is J.B. Hunt’s fourth since 2017, broadening its Final Mile Services, now with 117 locations and over 3.4 million square feet of warehouse and facilities space, giving it the ability to serve all of the contiguous United States. In 2019, J.B. Hunt acquired the assets of RDI Last Mile Co. and Cory 1st Choice Home Delivery. It purchased Special Logistics Dedicated in 2017.
The move follows an announcement earlier in November of executive leadership changes at J.B. Hunt.
John Kuhlow was named chief financial officer. Nick Hobbs, continuing his duties as president of contract services, was named chief operating officer.
Also, Shelley Simpson, while continuing as executive vice president and chief commercial officer, picked up responsibility for international services, corporate marketing and added to her title the newly created role of executive vice president, people and human resources. Craig Harper was named chief sustainability officer. And Brad Hicks was named president of highway services.
All report directly to Roberts.
Kuhlow had been serving as interim CFO since March 1, upon the retirement of David Mee. Prior to that, he was senior vice president of finance, controller and chief accounting officer and joined the company in 2006 as assistant controller.
“During the past eight months, we have not only been dealing with our response to the challenges presented by COVID-19, we have also been moving forward with important leadership decisions,” Roberts said.
“These changes best address the opportunities we see in many areas of the company and we believe set us up to head into 2021 and the future with the right people focused on the right things.”
Hobbs, continuing as executive vice president and president of DCS and FMS (newly titled president of contract services),will add responsibility for maintenance and equipment purchasing teams in his expanded role. He will also have increased oversight for asset operations across all J.B. Hunt divisions.
These newly appointed positions became effective Dec. 1.
