GREENSBORO, N.C. — Austin Group Furniture has announced that managing partner J. Scott Ostrander is retiring Dec. 31, marking the conclusion of a nearly four-decade career spanning furniture design, manufacturing operations, product development and executive leadership. With his retirement, the company will become fully owned by Janet Gan and her two sons, Vincent and Steven Lim.

Ostrander joined Austin Group in July 2010 as president and an ownership partner, following 23 years at Riverside Furniture. Over more than 16 years with Austin Group, his work encompassed product development, customer relationships and business growth, helping shape the company’s offerings and service to its retail partners.
Ostrander and Gan have jointly owned Austin Group since 2018. The transition to ownership by Gan and her sons marks the next chapter for the company, with Vincent Lim continuing as president and Steven as vice president of operations.
Ostrander’s career began at Riverside in 1987 as a draftsman. He subsequently moved into product design and engineering before advancing through senior leadership positions, including chief operating officer in 2006 and president in 2007. His contributions extended beyond the companies he served through his involvement with the American Home Furnishings Alliance’s Operations Division board, where he also served as chairman.
“Scott’s influence on Austin Group extends far beyond the products we bring to market,” said Vincent Lim, president of Austin Group Furniture. “His understanding of the business, commitment to our retail partners and dedication to the people around him have helped shape this company. We are grateful for his leadership and friendship, and we look forward to celebrating his remarkable career.”
In 2022, Lim succeeded Ostrander as president, with Ostrander continuing as managing partner. His retirement marks an important milestone for Austin Group and an opportunity to recognize the relationships and contributions that have defined his career.
