President Scott Knox said that the family owned business decided to close its doors following the passing of his father Bob Knox in March
GREENSBORO, N.C. — Retailer Priba Furniture and Interiors, which has been in business for more than 54 years, is closing its doors.
In a letter obtained by Home News Now, President Scott Knox said the family owned business decided to close its doors following the passing of his father Bob Knox in March.
Bob and Priscilla Knox founded the company in their basement in 1972, initially focusing on out-of-state business. Over time, the business had been in a few different store locations before establishing its 55,000-square-foot store on Stage Coach Trail in Greensboro.
The location is now holding a closing sale, with major discounts on items throughout the store.
“For over five decades, Priba Furniture has been honored to help generations of families create beautiful and comfortable homes,” the company said. “What began as a family business grew into a lasting relationship with the Triad area and loyal customers nationwide.”
Over the many decades, the company has built a reputation for carrying some of the most well-known and respected brands in the industry including Bernhardt, Kincaid, Taylor King, Century, Hancock & Moore, Hooker, Hickory Chair and Universal to name several.
As an independent retailer, however, the retailer faced major competition from the likes of much larger stores in its backyard such as Furnitureland South and Rooms To Go. Despite this, the company persevered for many years, thanks to its loyal following of consumers and designers in and outside the region.
“Their philosophy? Providing exceptional interior design services and quality high-end furnishings at a great value,” reads a sign inside the company’s main entrance. “Scott refocused the business on customers surrounding Greensboro, weaning the company from the highly competitive, cut-throat out-of-state model. Employing six interior designers and a knowledgeable and personal sales team, Priba’s impeccable customer service separates them from the competition.”
“It has truly been an honor for my family and me to serve this community for more than 54 years,” said Scott Knox, who joined the business after graduating from the University of North Carolina in 1988. “We have cherished the friendships and strong relationships we have built over the years with our customers and business partners. Your loyalty and support have meant more to us than words can express.”
