Move will impact as many as 130 hourly personnel
TIFFIN, Ohio — Dorel Home is eliminating as many as 130 hourly jobs at its Ameriwood Home RTA plant here, resulting from what it described as a significant downturn in its business.
As many as 154 jobs, including salaried workers, are believed to be affected, according to information the company provided to state officials.
Dorel Home submitted a WARN Act notice to the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services dated July 8, saying that it is converting its Tiffin manufacturing operation into a distribution and warehouse facility supporting Dorel.
As part of the change, it will move production operations and some equipment to other company production facilities.
“Our parent company Dorel has been forced to make some hard financial decisions to survive this economy,” Dorel Home Furnishings Division President Raymond Toal said in a July 8 letter to the Rapid Response Unit of the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services, adding that the Tiffin facility will be staffed with at least 40 hourly and salaried workers.
“This means a drastic change to the number of employees that will be needed going forward,” he added, noting that a large number of permanent jobs were eliminated effective July 8. The switch to the distribution and warehouse operation is expected to occur 60 days later, with the last day of production on Sept. 5.
He added that employees whose jobs have been eliminated will be eligible to receive state unemployment benefits. Home News Now has reached out to the company for additional information and will update this story should more information become available.
