A conversation with Twin Star Home CEO Mark Gold

Executive discusses the company’s expanded mix, including its latest acquisition of outdoor resource Grand Basket

BOCA RATON, Fla. — In early January, indoor and outdoor furniture specialist Twin Star Home announced its acquisition of outdoor furniture resource Grand Basket, a move that further expands its presence in the category.

It also marked the company’s third acquisition of an outdoor furnishings resource in recent years, starting with the purchase of TK Classics in January 2020 and Classic Accessories in June 2021.

Based in Aurora, Colorado, Grand Basket was founded in 1962 and over the years has evolved as a resource for high-quality patio furnishings and accessories and private-label product developed for key customers.

Recently Twin Star Home CEO Mark Gold took time to discuss the acquisition further with Home News Now and how this strategic move will bolster Twin Star’s presence as a go-to resource for living room, home office and outdoor furniture that incorporates design, technology and functionality into the product mix.

Home News Now: What appealed most to Twin Star about Grand Basket and why has the company decided to invest so much in the outdoor segment overall?

Gold: What appealed to us the most was Grand Basket’s proven track record of more than 50 years as experts in the outdoor category. We knew right away they would be a great strategic fit and the team would blend seamlessly into our consolidated organization. The addition of Grand Basket to the Twin Star Home family further expands our outdoor product portfolio and is aligned with our mission to invest in the secular growth of outdoor living.

What value do you believe Grand Basket brings to your customer base?

Gold: Their long legacy of developing high-quality outdoor products to empower consumers to make the best of their outdoor environments aligns very well to our overall mission. The products are high quality, beautiful and consumers love them. This acquisition builds upon our foundation and enhances the differentiation Twin Star delivers in terms of unrivaled design, quality and innovation to our retail partners and end consumers.

What categories does the company offer and how will that align with your other product mix in outdoor?

Gold: As the premier provider of hand-woven resin wicker patio furniture in North America, Grand Basket’s category mix aligns to many of our existing outdoor categories and offers expansion into some new categories within outdoor furniture, including daybeds and swings and stacking chairs as well as a multitude of accessories like side tables, mosaics, planters and more. Grand Basket also has some products in the lighting category. Unlike many competitors, Grand Basket does not work from catalogs — all designs are uniquely tailored for each customers’ specific demographic, economic and aesthetic profile.

What impact do you think that this acquisition will have on overall sales and growth?

Gold: The combination of our companies creates an even stronger and more competitive organization positioned for greater growth. Customers trust Grand Basket and look to the company for insight on competitive, trend and gap analysis. Together, we will leverage and build on each other’s strengths. Our new consolidated company will enable us to continue to provide consumers with total home comfort, all year long and further accelerate our growth, and better manage market challenges and economic volatility.

Can you say how the products ship?

Gold: Our line of indoor and outdoor products includes a mix of fully assembled and KD.

How does the outdoor mix fit into your showroom presentations in High Point and Las Vegas?

Gold: Our Las Vegas and High Point showrooms are primarily focused on the indoor category; however, we do have a curated mix of outdoor products and accessories from TK Classics and Classic Accessories on display. We plan to integrate product from Grand Basket into our showrooms beginning with the April High Point Market.
