Lastick Furniture closing after nearly 50 years

POTTSTOWN, Pa. — After nearly 50 years in business, retailer Lastick Furniture & Floor Coverings is closing its doors as the owners retire from the furniture business.

Jerry Lastick and Marsha Lastick-Petnick said they will hold a liquidation starting Oct. 6 in both its 38,000-square-foot furniture showroom and a 5,000-square-foot floor covering showroom across the street. Furniture promotional sales specialists Planned Furniture Promotions is handling the liquidation for the company.

Eli and Sonia Lastick and their son Jerry founded the business in 1973. It got its start in the former Block Furniture building at 310 E. High Street and moved to its present location at 269 E. High Street soon after following a period of rapid growth.

Over the years, Lastick drew business from six surrounding counties and received 15 consecutive Reader’s Choice awards in The Mercury newspaper of Pottstown. It also was recognized with the Harry C. Kahn Memorial Retailer of the Year Award by the Tri-State Home Furnishings Assn.

“We believe the secret to the store’s success has always been based on “old school values, progressive products, tried and true vendors and superior customer service,” Jerry Lastick said. “We’re grateful for the support of the community and loyal customers and friends for so many years.”

The going-out-of-business will span seven floors in the 43,000-square feet of space downtown and includes every category from well-known brands including Bassett, Serta, Aspenhome, Leather Italia, Southerland, Benchcraft, Legacy, Liberty, Magnussen, Décor-Rest, i-Comfort and others.
