Modway opens 1 million-square-foot warehouse in California

Facility is three times larger than its previous West Coast location

HESPERIA, Calif. – Upholstery and wood furniture resource Modway has opened a new one million-square-foot warehouse and distribution center here that it says is more than three times the size of its previous West Coast facility.

The company said that the facility is its first warehouse with more than one million square feet. Located about 80 miles northeast of Los Angeles, it houses more than 10,000 SKUs across multiple categories including indoor and outdoor furniture.

Modway previously occupied about 300,000 square feet of space in Fontana, Calif. The company said the new facility will be a West Coast counterpart to its 630,000-square-foot East Coast warehouse facility off I-95 in East Windsor, N.J., “allowing for greater operating efficiencies and faster shipping times to better serve the furniture industry.”

The California facility currently employs about 45 workers but is expected to ramp up to as many as 200 within the year.

“One of the reasons we moved to a bigger space in California is because we are trying to stock the most popular items in both East and West warehouses to cut transit and delivery times so customers can get their products much faster,” said Shmuel Volovick, warehouse manager, adding that this is an important asset for the company moving forward, particularly as it continues to grow.
