Fifth generation Texas retailer celebrates 100 years in business

VICTORIA, Texas — The Stimson/Streiff family is a celebrating their 100-year-old business that has operated as Stimson Furniture, Ashley HomeStore and 5th and Home Furniture in South Texas.

The Stimson family started with a general store called Rackley produce in Kenedy, Texas, in 1922. After selling more furniture than general goods, the business changed its name to Stimson Furniture in 1940, according to a release from buying group Furniture First. The second and third generations expanded the business and over time grew into several full line furniture locations in South Texas.

In 2005, the fourth generation converted the existing Stimson Furniture store in Victoria to an Ashley HomeStore.  Other locations were sold or converted to HomeStores to respond to changes in the market and the furniture industry.

The HomeStore in Corpus Christi was purchased in 2010 by Ben and Paige Streiff, the fifth generation to run the family business.  5th & Home is the newest full-line store and retail banner opened by the family in 2018.

Currently they own the Ashley HomeStores located in Corpus Christi and Victoria along with 5th  and Home Furniture in Victoria Texas.

The official 100-year celebration will be held on Thursday March 24, from 4:30-6 pm at the Victoria HomeStore. With many local and state representatives planning to attend the event, the Streiff family would like to extend an invitation to enjoy the food and drinks for the evening.  Customers can view the family history wall and register to win a 2022 Chevy Trax Car.
