Handicraft and Wood Assn. of Vietnam hosts webinar discussion on Friday

HO CHI MINH CITY. Vietnam – The Handicraft and Wood Association of Ho Chi Minh City is holding a webinar on Friday morning that will address some of the supply chain concerns and issues facing the country, which has been enduring a Covid-19 related lockdown since mid-summer.

The event, titled Vietnam Furniture Supply Chain Recovery Plan, starts at 9 a.m. EST Oct. 8 and will run for roughly two hours, including a question and answer session at the end. Mr. Nguyen Quoc Khanh, chairman of HAWA, will make introductory remarks.

The first panel discussion is titled Market Overview and National Post Pandemic Recovery Plan. It is being moderated by Ms. Bui Thi Thanh An, deputy director general of the Vietnam Trade Promotion Agency.

It will include commentary from Mr. Vu Ba Phu, director general of Vietrade (Vietnam Trade Promotion Agency), who will provide a look at what’s on the horizon in terms of Vietnam furniture and home furnishings exports; Mr. Bui Ta Hoang, director of the HCMC Department of Industry and Trade, who will provide updates of safety requirements for reopening factories in major provinces where furniture manufacturing takes place; and Mr. Bui Chinh Nghia, deputy director of the Vietnam Administration of Forestry, who will discuss a recovery plan for Vietnam furniture industry exports.

The second session is panel discussion that includes Mary Tarnowka, executive director of Amcham (American Chamber of Commerce) Vietnam; Alain Cany, chairman of Eurocham; Mr. Do Xuan Lap, chairman of Viforest and Benjamin Petlock, senior agricultural attache for the U.S. Consulate General. They will discuss issues involving the reopening’s impact on U.S. furniture enterprises.

The next session is a panel discussion titled “Proactive Responses to Sustain the Global Supply Chain,” which will be moderated by Thomas Russell, editor-in-chief of Home News Now. The panel includes Harvey Dondero, chairman of wood furniture manufacturer H. Nicolas & Company; Mr. Nguyen Hoai Boa, vice general director of wood furniture manufacturer Scansia Pacific and Mr. Ernie Koh, executive director, sales and marketing at case goods and upholstery manufacturer Koda Ltd. The panel will discuss the latest on the reopening efforts in Vietnam and what these companies are doing to help maintain the flow of goods from their manufacturing facilities.
