Waltman Furniture to cease operations after 75 years

The family-owned and operated retailer will close following liquidation sale

KITTANNING, Pa. — After 75 years in operation, Waltman Furniture Co. here is going out of business. The retailer was founded in 1951 by Vernon Waltman in Chicora, Pennsylvania. Waltman founded the business with the mission to provide excellent customer service, which is still reflected in the store’s motto: “Savings, Service, Satisfaction.” The store became a go-to retailer for furnishings, bedding and flooring for residents in Butler and Armstrong counties.

In 1982, Vernon’s son, Frank Waltman, took over the family business. In 2016, Waltman’s opened a 60,000-square-foot second location in Kittanning. In June 2023, the company consolidated its operations into the Kittanning location at 13584 State Route 422 and closed its flagship location.

To assist winding down the company’s operations, Planned Furniture Promotions is handling the retailer’s liquidation sale that started April 9. The sale includes furniture, mattresses and accessories from Beautyrest, Best Home Furnishings, Brooklyn Bedding, Flexsteel, HomeStretch, Leather Italian, Mayo Furniture, Mega Motion, Serta, Southern Motion, Spring Air and Vaughan-Bassett. Following the conclusion of the sale, Frank will retire.

“Frank and his family have built an exceptional legacy,” Tom Liddell, senior vice president of Planned Furniture Promotions, said in a news release. “Their dedication to customer service earned the trust of generations of customers, and we’re proud to support them through this final chapter.”

The Waltman Furniture Co. showroom and warehouse totals 100,000 square feet of retail space. Those interested in purchasing the building can contact Chuck Swidzinski at 724-283-0005.
