HOUSTON – Star Furniture, a Texas-based retailer with over a century of service to the community, is holding a special art auction event benefiting the Furniture Bank of Houston. The event will take place Thursday, June 19, at the Star Furniture Showroom and Design Center – Katy/W. Houston, located at 16666 Barker Springs Road in Houston.
The auction will feature unique furniture pieces transformed into works of art by a diverse group of talented local artists, ranging from established professionals to students from the Kinder High School for the Performing and Visual Arts. These artistic creations were showcased in specially designed vignettes at all Star Furniture Houston locations, including the Clearance Outlet, from May 19 through June 13.
“This event aims to support The Furniture Bank and create awareness for a critical issue in our community: over 300,000 children go to sleep on the floor every night,” said Michael Galloway, vice president of marketing for Star Furniture. “We’re proud to partner with the Furniture Bank of Houston, which has served over 30,000 families and provided beds to more than 1,000 children through their ‘No Kids on the Floor’ initiative.”
Star Furniture has joined forces with the Interior Design Society of Houston to create exceptional display spaces that showcase these artistic pieces. Each showroom dedicated 100-120 square feet of prominent space to display these valuable works, which are expected to fetch thousands of dollars at auction. Interior Design Society designed and staged vignettes at each showroom, just in time for Memorial Day weekend.
Throughout May and June, Star Furniture launched a comprehensive social media campaign to amplify awareness of the initiative. The campaign will showcase the artists, their creative processes, and the impactful work of the Furniture Bank. Visitors to Star showrooms will be encouraged to share images of the art pieces and vignettes using dedicated hashtags, helping to spread the message about the Furniture Bank’s mission and the upcoming auction event. This digital outreach effort is designed to extend the initiative’s reach beyond physical store locations and engage the broader Houston community.
“This collaboration represents our commitment to service and community engagement,” said Juliana Ewer, President of the Interior Design Society Houston Chapter. “It’s going to be amazing AND it’s going to help support our community in a big way.”
The Furniture Bank of Houston has been serving families affected by poverty, homelessness, domestic violence, health concerns, and disasters for 29 years. The organization has recycled over 120,000 mattresses and provided essential furniture to families in need through partnerships with 82 social service agencies.
Star Furniture also reminds customers of their enhanced delivery option, which allows for furniture pick-up with proceeds donated to the Furniture Bank, providing customers with tax donation receipts — creating a win for both customers and the community.
