CPSC announces recall of 10,400 motion seating units sold at Raymour & Flanigan

While no injuries have been reported as of the May 28 filing, there have been 41 incidents thus far, including 2 that have resulted in a fire

WASHINGTON —  The United States Product Safety Commission has announced the recall of more than 10,000 motion sofas, loveseats and recliners sold at Raymour & Flanigan stores that pose a fire hazard.

While there were no injuries as of the May 28 recall date, there have been 41 incidents reported, including smoking, burning, and electrical odor smell and two that have resulted in a fire.

The recall involves the Talan and Royce collection sofas, loveseats and recliners which have a power switch that can malfunction and overheat and which the agency said poses a risk of a serious injury from a fire hazard.

The recall involves the Talan power upholstery group that that  includes a sofa (model JF1126-4PHL), loveseat (model JF1126-5PHL) and recliner (model JF1126-9PHL) and the Royce group that includes a sofa (model JF1155-4PHL), loveseat (model JF1155-5PHL) and recliner (model JF1155-9PHL).

They feature a power headrest and lumbar support as well as pillowed arms, ultra-padded seating and USB and wireless charging. The Talan set comes in a medium-gray tone and the Royce set comes in brown.

Sourced in China and Cambodia, they were made by Zhejiang Mingrui Furniture Co. Ltd., also known as Joy Furniture and imported by Raymour & Flanigan of Liverpool, New York and sold at the retailer’ stores in Connecticut, New Jersey, Rhode Island, Pennsylvania and Massachusetts.

The Talan was sold from January 2024 through March 2026 for between $1,000 and $2,200 and the Royce was sold from May 2025 until the mid-May 2026 for between $800 and $1,800.

Consumers have been advised to immediately stop using the power recliner switch on their furniture set and unplug the power cord.

The company is offering all consumers a free upgraded replacement power switch for the units and will arrange for an authorized technician to replace the affected switches at their homes. To participate in the recall, visit http://www.warrantyservice.com/JoyFurnitureRecall.

The recall alerts other manufacturers and retailers about the potential hazards involving power motion upholstery. A key takeaway is that these companies should check with their suppliers or manufacturing partners to make sure these components have met rigorous safety tests. If not, they pose a potentially devastating incident in the home of a consumer.
