Sauder recalls 15,800 tip-restraint kits sold with dressers, 4-drawer chests

Units can fail, posing a tip-over and entrapment hazard to children

ARCHBOLD, Ohio — RTA manufacturer Sauder Woodworking has recalled 15,800 tip-restraint straps that came with several dressers and four-drawer chests sold under the Sauder and Sauder Beginnings brands.

This is one of the dressers sold with the recalled tip-restraint kits.

While no incidents or injuries have been reported, the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission said the tip-over restraint straps — which typically are designed to prevent tip-over incidents — can fail, thus posing tip-over and entrapment hazards that can result in death or serious injuries to children. The recall is taking place under the CPSC’s Fast Track recall system which allows units to be recalled sooner versus later to avoid such catastrophic incidents.

The recall involves tip-over restraint straps that were sold and distributed with certain Sauder dressers and four-drawer chests manufactured between July 2020 and August 2023. Sold in various colors under the Sauder and Sauder Beginnings brands, the clothing storage units have a date of manufacture on a sticker affixed to the back of each unit.

The recalled tip-over restraint kit

Made in Malaysia, they were imported by Sauder Woodworking of Archbold, Ohio, and sold at Cook Brothers, Homemakers Furniture Plaza and Menards stores nationwide and online at Amazon.com, BestBuy.com, Cymax.com, HomeDepot.com, Menards.com, Sauder.com, Target.com, UrbanOutfitters.com, Walmart.com, Wayfair.com and other websites from July 2020 through December 2024 for between $200 and $335.

Consumers have been advised to check the date of manufacture on the sticker on the back of the unit. If it was made between July 2020 and August 2023 they should contact Sauder to obtain a free replacement tip-over restraint kit to be mailed to the consumer free of charge. Consumers should then remove the old tip-over restraint kit and install the replacement.

They also have been advised to keep children away from the unit until the new replacement kit arrives and is installed.
