SALT LAKE CITY — Intercon Furniture is celebrating its 50th anniversary, marking five decades of delivering quality home furnishings, exceptional value and trusted partnerships throughout the furniture industry.
Founded in 1976 by Tom and Linda Turpin, Intercon Furniture began with a simple idea, a pickup truck and a determination to build a successful business. Selling bar stools directly to furniture retailers throughout Utah and Idaho, the couple laid the foundation for what would become a nationally recognized home furnishings company.

“When Linda and I started Intercon 50 years ago, we never imagined what it would become. We’ve been fortunate to work with incredible people along the way, and the relationships we’ve built with our employees, customers and suppliers have always been the heart of this business. Reaching this milestone is something we’re incredibly proud of,” said Tom Turpin, founder and CEO.
Today, Intercon remains family-owned and -operated, offering a comprehensive selection of home furnishings to retailers across North America.
Built on Relationships, Driven by Quality
Throughout its 50-year history, Intercon has remained committed to providing quality furniture at an exceptional value, treating customers and business partners with integrity, and building relationships that stand the test of time.
A cornerstone of Intercon’s success has been the long-standing relationships it has cultivated with its suppliers and retail partners. Many of these partnerships have spanned decades, reflecting the company’s dedication to loyalty, trust and mutual success. These enduring relationships have played an integral role in Intercon’s continued growth.
Headquartered in Salt Lake City, Intercon maintains a corporate office and distribution facility, with more than 600,000 square feet of domestic warehouse space across three locations: Salt Lake City; Salisbury, North Carolina; and Sumner, Washington. The company also maintains permanent showrooms in High Point and Las Vegas, where it introduces fresh designs and new product offerings to retailers four times a year.

At the heart of Intercon’s story is its dedicated team of employees. The company’s growth is a direct reflection of their talent, dedication and commitment, with many team members having served the organization for decades. Their collective knowledge, experience and loyalty have played an essential role in maintaining Intercon’s reputation for quality, consistency and exceptional customer service.
A Legacy of Strength and Innovation
Over the past five decades, Intercon has continued to evolve, building upon its expertise in dining, bedroom, home office and home theater furnishings. Drawing on its extensive industry knowledge and experience, the company has expanded its product offerings to include outdoor furniture, upholstery and, most recently, game room furnishings.
Intercon’s continued growth also includes Westwood Design, its sister company specializing in quality nursery, baby and youth furniture. Together the companies share a passion for providing well-crafted furnishings that help families create comfortable, functional and inviting spaces throughout every stage of life.
Looking Toward the Next 50 Years
As Intercon celebrates this milestone, the company remains focused on its future, continuing to invest in product development, operational capabilities and the people and partnerships that have contributed to its success.
With the next generation of family leadership helping guide the business, Intercon is positioned to build upon its legacy while responding to the changing needs of retailers and consumers.
“Fifty years is an incredible milestone, but what makes it especially meaningful is the foundation that was built long before us. Our responsibility is to honor that legacy while continuing to evolve, strengthen our partnerships and position Intercon for another 50 years of success,” said Sam Turpin, president.
As the company looks toward the future, its guiding principles remain unchanged: listening to customers, adapting to an evolving industry and delivering products that combine quality, function and value.
Intercon’s 50th anniversary is more than a celebration of business success. It is a tribute to the employees, retail partners, suppliers and families who have helped shape its journey — and a renewed commitment to the relationships and values that will carry the company into its next chapter.
On Friday, starting around 5 p.m., the company is holding a 50th anniversary celebration at its showroom at 449 S. Wrenn St. in High Point.
