ATLANTA — Full-line furniture resource Liberty Furniture Industries has named Jonathan Cowles president, effective Aug. 1.

In a statement, Liberty said, “The leadership transition marks the next chapter in Liberty Furniture’s continued evolution and reflects the company’s commitment to building a strong executive leadership team while maintaining the customer-first culture that has fueled its success,” adding that Cowles’ appointment “reinforces Liberty Furniture’s continued investment in leadership, operational excellence and long-term partnerships as the company positions itself for future growth in an evolving home furnishings marketplace.”

Brian had been president since January 2016 and also has been CEO since January 2018, according to his LinkedIn profile.

“Serving as president of Liberty Furniture has been the greatest privilege of my career,” Brian said. “Over the past 10 years, we’ve built an incredible organization, strengthened our processes, expanded our business, and successfully navigated some of the most challenging periods our industry has faced. Through it all, we’ve remained committed to finding a way to say ‘yes’ to our customers, our partners, and our team. That philosophy continues to drive Liberty forward.”

Cowles has been with the company for nearly 21 years, having started as director of supply chain in October 2005 before being promoted to vice president of supply chain and later executive vice president. He most recently had been chief revenue officer since December 2024, a role in which Liberty said “he has shaped the company’s sales strategy and customer partnerships. Throughout his career with the company, Cowles has been monumental in securing success with his calculated precision, steadfast dedication, and pragmatic vision.”

“Jonathan and I first met more than 30 years ago as freshmen at the University of Georgia, and we’ve worked together at Liberty for over 20 years,” Brian said. “Much of our success is owed to Jonathan’s loyalty, leadership, and unwavering commitment to our company. There is no one better prepared to lead our organization as president.”

Reporting to Brian, the company said Cowles “will oversee the company’s day-to-day operations while continuing to advance Liberty Furniture’s commitment to service, modernization, and long-term partnerships with factories and retailers.”

Cowles said he is “humbled to assume the role of president and enthusiastic to build on the company’s momentum.”

“This company has been a part of my life for more than two decades, and I am deeply honored for the opportunity to serve as president,” he added. “I’m thankful to Jason and the Brian family for their trust and leadership, and I’m excited to continue working alongside an exceptional team that is passionate and committed to this industry. The future of Liberty is bright, and I’m elated to lead this next chapter.”
