ITA announces 1st group of inductees into Textile Hall of Fame

HIGH POINT The International Textile Alliance (ITA) has announced the inaugural class of the Textile Hall of Fame, recognizing individuals whose leadership, innovation, achievement, and service have made a lasting impact on the textile industry and the communities they serve.

The 2026 inaugural inductees are:

+ Harley Ferguson Shuford, Sr. – Visionary entrepreneur and founder of Valdese Weavers and Century Furniture, whose commitment to innovation, quality, and American craftsmanship transformed the home furnishings industry. His leadership established two enduring companies whose influence continues to shape the residential textiles and furniture industries today.

+ Carole Sloan – Founding editor of Home Textiles Today, Carole Sloan became one of the home textiles industry’s most influential voices. Through decades of journalism and market insight, she informed, connected, and championed the industry while mentoring countless professionals and helping shape its future.

+ Meri Stevens – As President and Creative Director of Waverly, Meri Stevens helped build one of the most iconic home textile brands. Her creative vision, leadership, and ability to anticipate consumer trends elevated Waverly’s influence on the industry while inspiring generations of designers, merchandisers, and textile professionals.

The inductees will be formally celebrated during a special Textile Hall of Fame Cocktail Reception on Tuesday, November 17, 2026, at 5:00 p.m. during Interwoven in High Point, North Carolina. The event will honor each inductee’s remarkable career and enduring contributions while bringing together industry colleagues, family, and friends to celebrate their legacies.

“The textile industry has been shaped by extraordinary individuals whose vision, leadership, and generosity have strengthened our businesses and our communities,” said David Lappert, President of the International Textile Alliance and founder of the Textile Hall of Fame initiative. “The Textile Hall of Fame was created to ensure those contributions are recognized and preserved for future generations. By celebrating the people who have helped build this industry, we also inspire the leaders who will carry it forward.”

Established by ITA in 2024, the Textile Hall of Fame recognizes individuals who exemplify:

+ Leadership and lasting influence within the textile industry

+ Distinguished professional achievement

+ Creative innovation that advances the industry

+ Service to both the textile community and the broader community

The Hall of Fame was created to celebrate exceptional careers while preserving the stories and accomplishments of those whose work continues to shape the future of textiles.

Nominations are now being accepted for the 2027 Textile Hall of Fame class. The nomination deadline is August 14, 2026.

Following the inaugural celebration this November, the Textile Hall of Fame will become an annual tradition. Future Hall of Fame classes will be announced each fall during Interwoven, with induction ceremonies taking place each spring during Interwoven.
