CANTON, Ga. — David (Davy) Marshall Crockett of Canton, Georgia, died on Aug. 16. He was 79.
Crockett was born in Atlanta in 1946 to Winnie and Dave Crockett. He attended grade and high schools in Arlington Heights, Illinois, then received a B.A. in 1968 from Culver-Stockton College. After two years in the Army — including a year in Vietnam where he earned bronze stars for valor — he married Karin Hogan and raised two children.
His career was spent mostly in furniture manufacturing where he excelled in creative merchandising for Lane, Leggett and Platt, La-Z-Boy and Southern Motion. His innovative furniture designs were copied the world over. He was also an avid golfer.
Crockett is survived by his wife, Martha; two children: Sarah Vinson and Matt Crockett; two grandchildren: Carly and Reid Vinson; and sister, Kitty.
A memorial service will be held at Soleil Laurel Canyon Clubhouse in Canton, Georgia (547 Laurel Canyon Parkway, Canton, Georgia) at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 13. A military service will be held at Georgia National Cemetery (1080 Scott Hudgens Drive, Canton, Georgia) at 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 15.
