CPSC announces recall of 3,300 China-made chests sold on Amazon

Agency said units violate the performance, labeling requirements of the STURDY Act and pose a tip-over and entrapment hazard

WASHINGTON — The United States Consumer Product Safety Commission has announced the recall of 3,300 chests sold on Amazon that pose a tip-over risk of injury or death to children.

The recall involves the EnHomee tall fabric chests, which the CPSC said violate the performance and labeling requirements of the STURDY (Stop Tip-Overs of Risky Dressers on Youth) Act and CPSC’s implementing regulations, which establish a mandatory safety standard to prevent tip-over incidents that can result in injury or death.

The company sold about 3,300 of the chests online at Amazon.com from September 2023 through October 2024 for between $85 and $96. Made in China, the chests include 12 fabric drawers with a frame and knobs and were sold in colors black wood vein, dark gray, gray, pink, rustic brown and white.

The chest measures about 12 inches long by 35 inches wide by 52 inches tall and weighs approximately 46 pounds. The model number — 55SCDR12DCHLX — and “Made in China” are printed on the product packaging.

It was not immediately clear whether there have been any incidents or injuries related to tip-overs of the recalled units.

The CPSC said it has issued a Notice of Violation to the seller, Weibao, of China, which does business as EnHomee-Direct. However, the company has not agreed to recall these clothing storage units or offer a remedy to consumers.

The CPSC added that although its Clothing Storage Unit safety regulation applies to clothing storage products made after Sept. 1, 2023, the manufacture date could not be verified for the dressers because the seller has been uncooperative.

CPSC urges consumers to anchor the units to the wall to prevent tip-over incidents. If consumers choose not to anchor the unit to the wall, it strongly urges them to dispose of the product and to not sell or give away the units.

Consumers that have experienced a safety incident with this product are also encouraged to report it to CPSC on SaferProducts.gov.
