Industry Icons: A chat with Paul Peters of Stickley Furniture

In this new video series with industry movers and shakers, Home News Now contributor Nick Byers checks in with Paul Peters, the recently promoted director of merchandising and new product development at Stickley Furniture. Peters has been with Stickley the past three years, starting as director of upholstery merchandising, a role he held for nine months beginning in November 2021 before being promoted to director of product development. He has held that role for the past two and half years before taking on his new role this past December.

But Peters, a graduate of the University of Illinois, did not originally plan on a career in furniture. Here, he speaks with Byers about how he grew up on a family farm in Northern Illinois and originally spent several years after college working on cattle ranches. But after some time, he decided he wanted to pursue something more long term. Through his father-in-law, a long-time rep for Chromcraft, he got introduced to the Dallas Market around 1986 and then joined the company through a sales-training program. After working for the company for about 12 years on the sales side, he evolved into the product development side of the business at sister company Cochrane. Here he talks about his growth in the business into further roles at companies including Furniture Brands International, where he was vice president of merchandising for Broyhill and later led upholstery merchandising for Broyhill and Lane.
