Consumer Product Safety Commission says units can collapse or break, posing a fall hazard to consumers
BYRON CENTER, Mich. — Grand Rapids Chair Co. has recalled 5,670 wood chairs that can break or collapse, posing a fall and injury hazard to consumers.
The company has received three reports of the chair breaking, although no injuries have been reported.
The recall involves the Brooke model all-wood dining chairs that come in several styles including with fully and partially upholstered seats and fully upholstered seats and backs. The model numbers W520, W520-11, W520-21, W520-31 and W520-33 are noted on the original order confirmation or invoice.
If the invoice is not available, consumers can look up the Special Order Number (“SO#”) found on the white sticker on the underside of each chair. A list of affected special order numbers is available at www.grandrapidschair.com/customer-service/product-safety-recall-brooke/.
Made in the U.S. by Grand Rapids Chair Co., they were produced via special order from January 2020 through June 2024 for between $450 and $1,015.
Consumers have been advised to immediately stop using the chairs and contact Grand Rapids Chair Co. for a free repair, which would be handled by Grand Rapids Chair Co. personnel at the consumer’s location.
