CPSC says units pose child entrapment, suffocation hazards
DALLAS — At Home Procurement has recalled 980 toy storage chests because of entrapment and suffocation hazards.
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced the recall of 980 Tie Dye Fur Toy Trunk Storage Chests on June 27. Although no incidents or injuries have been reported, the agency said that the units do not have a lid support feature, or ventilation holes, which poses a danger, particularly to children that climb inside and become trapped in the units.
The recall alerts manufacturers and retailers selling such products of the dangers that could be associated with these items should children become entrapped inside.
Consumers have been advised to immediately stop using the recalled toy storage chests and return them to any At Home store for a full refund.
The recall involves the Tie Dye Fur Toy Trunk Storage Chests, sold in two sizes. Made with MDF (medium-density fiberboard) and covered in a multicolor tie-dye-patterned faux fur fabric, the larger unit measures 32 ½ inches x 16 ½ inches x 21 inches. The smaller unit measures 27 inches x 13 ½ inches x 16 ½ inches.
They were made in China and imported by At Home Procurement of Dallas. They were sold at At Home stores nationwide and online at www.athome.com for between $50 and $60.
