Annual GMFA/Dean Michael Clarizio Cancer Foundation Golf and Dinner Event supports a common cause
HAMBURG, N.J. — The furniture industry came together at the annual Greater Metropolitan Furnishings Association/Dean Michael Clarizio Cancer Foundation Golf and Dinner Event held at Crystal Springs Golf Resort, celebrating leadership, honoring industry legends and raising nearly $130,000 to support families facing the challenges of cancer.

The highlight of the evening was the presentation of the prestigious Simon Kaplan Distinguished Leadership Award to Christopher De Lisa, president of Lineage Collections. In a moving and memorable moment, the award was presented by his son, Mateo De Lisa, who also represents Lineage Collections, symbolizing the importance of family, mentorship and legacy within the furniture industry.
The award honors the enduring influence and leadership of Simon Kaplan, whose contributions through Crest Furniture and Value City Furniture of New Jersey helped shape generations of industry professionals. De Lisa joins a distinguished group of leaders recognized for their commitment to excellence, integrity and service.
Beyond the celebration of individual achievement, the event showcased the industry’s extraordinary generosity. Through the efforts of attendees, sponsors and supporters, the Dean Michael Clarizio Cancer Foundation raised close to $130,000, funds that will directly assist families battling cancer by helping cover hospital expenses and providing critical support during some of life’s most difficult moments.
“The true success of this event is measured not only by the funds raised, but by the message it sends to families in need — that they are not alone in their fight,” said Chris Clarizio, DMCCF president.
The evening also served as an opportunity to recognize two highly respected sales professionals, Larry Tennen and Frank Arroyo, as they celebrated their retirements after distinguished careers serving the furniture industry.
Attendees also took time to remember Alan Granetz, former director of the GMFA, whose passing this past December was deeply felt throughout the industry. Granetz’s leadership, friendship and dedication to the association were honored as colleagues reflected on his lasting impact.
Retailers, manufacturers, marketers, suppliers, friends and family members gathered throughout the day, enjoying ideal conditions at Crystal Springs Resort. The beautiful weather provided the perfect backdrop for an event defined by camaraderie, gratitude and generosity.
One of the most emotional moments of the evening came when four cancer “Heroes” each received $5,000 grants from the Dean Michael Clarizio Cancer Foundation to assist with their ongoing battles.
Since its inception, the DMCCF has provided support to 658 Heroes, helping families navigate the financial and emotional burdens that accompany a cancer diagnosis. The foundation’s continued growth and impact are made possible through the unwavering support of the furniture industry and its many charitable partners.
As the event concluded, attendees reflected on a day that celebrated leadership, honored cherished colleagues, strengthened industry relationships and, most importantly, made a meaningful difference in the lives of families facing cancer.
For many in attendance, it was a powerful reminder that the furniture industry is more than a business — it is a community united by compassion, generosity and a commitment to helping others.
