COLUMBIA, S.C. — The South Carolina Department of Commerce announced this week that residential furniture manufacturer Maxwood Furniture is expanding its operations in Marion County, representing a $6 million investment that will create 43 new jobs.
The company is expanding its existing distribution center at 720 W. Liberty Street in Marion. The project is expected to be competed and come online sometime in the third quarter of 2028.
The facility, first announced in September 2022, was originally projected to be nearly four times the size of an existing 130,000-square-foot facility in nearby Mullins, South Carolina.
In addition to approving job credits related to the project, the Coordinating Council for Economic Development awarded a $200,000 Rural Infrastructure Fund grant to Marion County to help with building improvements.
“We greatly appreciate the support of state and local leadership, which was critical to our commitment to making additional investments and creating new jobs opportunities in Marion County,” said said Maxwood Furniture President Stephen Jensen. “Further, this announcement is a testament to the men and women on the Maxwood Furniture team, as their hard work and dedication have given us confidence that we can grow and flourish in this community.” .
“When an existing company expands within our state, it is further proof that South Carolina is a place where companies can find sustained success,” added South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster. “We are pleased Maxwood Furniture continues to invest in Marion County and congratulate the company on this $6 million expansion.”
