by Carved pumpkin masterpieces ready to fight breast cancer
MIAMI – CITY Furniture is teaming with the American Cancer Society (ACS) to add pumpkin power to the fight against breast cancer, with today’s launch of the furniture retailer’s Florida Pink Pumpkins fundraiser – part of ACS’ 2020 Making Strides Against Breast Cancer campaign.
As the American Cancer Society kicks off Breast Cancer Awareness Month, CITY Furniture’s Pink Pumpkins initiative adds fun, heartfelt ways throughout October to honor loved ones whose lives have been touched by the disease.
“Before my mom, Doreen, lost her battle with breast cancer in 2015, she made us promise to order 20,000 pink pumpkin candy buckets to hand out at the annual Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk,” said CITY Furniture President Andrew Koenig, whose father, Keith Koenig is CEO and a co-founder of the family-owned company. “We’ve done so ever since, and the pumpkins are a symbol of my mom’s memory,” he added. “To us they’re a token of love remembered, and they inspire all of us to work harder to spread awareness and find a cure.”
Now CITY Furniture takes Doreen Koenig’s idea to the next level, with community partners and families across Florida are stepping forward to help. A longtime ACS supporter, CITY Furniture has committed a $25,000 donation to match funds raised.
“We’re thrilled to have the support of CITY Furniture once again to help raise awareness for breast cancer,” said Brant Woodward, ACS Southeast Region Executive Vice President, “Through the support of like-minded partners like CITY Furniture, we’re able to raise funds for groundbreaking research into causes, prevention, and treatments for breast cancer, provide free rides to chemo and places to stay near hospitals, a live 24/7 cancer helpline, and so much more.”
