Kuka Home expands Vietnam manufacturing presence

New 470,000-square-foot plant will begin operations in September, bringing its total footprint in the Ho Chi Minh City region to nearly 5.2 million square feet

BINH PHUOC PROVINCE, Vietnam — Motion and stationary upholstery manufacturer Kuka Home has announced a further expansion of its Vietnam production facilities that will add 470,000 square feet to its capacity.

The company said the facility, which will begin operations in September, is part of what ultimately will become nearly 5.2 million square feet of combined production in the region.

The other facilities include its 624,000-square-foot plant that opened this past March and its 4.1 million-square-foot plant that opened in the third quarter of 2022.

The company said the estimated 1.1 million-square-foot increase in production in the past several months alone aims to reduce lead times and serve growing demand among both existing and new customers alike.

“As our production shifts further into Vietnam, this expansion gives us the added capacity and flexibility needed to support our partners with greater speed and efficiency,” said Matt Harrison, president of Kuka Home North America. “We’re proud to invest in infrastructure that allows us to scale with confidence and continue delivering exceptional value in today’s evolving environment.”

The news follows the July 2 announcement that the Trump administration is imposing a 20% tariff on product shipped to the U.S. from Vietnam, although this project can be viewed as a long-term investment that has been in the planning and development stages long before the tariffs were an issue.

“The expansion reflects Kuka Home’s ongoing investment in scalable infrastructure to support future growth and evolving customer needs,” the company added, noting the growth in the company’s Vietnam manufacturing footprint reflects “strong momentum fueled by Kuka Home’s long-standing retail partnerships and high-performing sales, product development, and design teams.”

“This new facility allows us to further boost output, shorten delivery timelines, and strengthen our commitment to long-term growth alongside our partners,” Harrison said. “I’m proud of what our team has accomplished and excited for what’s ahead.”

The new plant will ship product on full containers direct to customers, allowing them to receive multiple styles for consumers in their respective markets.

With its global headquarters in Hangzhou, China, the company also has a U.S. headquarters in High Point. Its manufacturing footprint includes more than 10 furniture plants around the world, in addition to mattress and mechanism plans and production and design research centers in China, Vietnam, Mexico and High Point.
