Breaking News: Bernards acquires assets of Null Furniture

Company will show 12-15 in-line occasional groups in its showroom at The Atrium at next week’s High Point Market

HIGH POINT — Bernards Furniture announced that it has acquired occasional furniture specialist Null Furniture, which announced plans to close in late August.

While the company did not reveal a purchase price, officials told Home News Now that the company acquired the Null Furniture name, company inventory, intellectual property and customer contacts.

Null, whose line was sourced in China and other countries in Asia, including Vietnam, was said to have fallen victim to import tariffs.

Bernards, which sources much of its product line from Vietnam, is currently looking to re-source anything from the Null line that was in China to Vietnam. Vietnam has a lower tariff rate of 20% compared to the 100% rate on China recently announced by the Trump administration.

A Bernards official told Home News Now that Null had carved a strong niche in the marketplace, serving the needs of consumers living in apartments and other smaller homes.

At this coming week’s High Point Market, Bernards will show the Null line of approximately 12-15 occasional table groups at its showroom on the second floor of The Atrium on Main building at 430 S. Main St. While final pricing is still being determined to factor in tariffs, the company said that pricing will be in line with the pricing of Bernard’s occasional table groups.

Null Furniture’s showroom also was in the Atrium on Main, which allowed company officials to become acquainted over the years, said Bernards President Micah Swick. The company was led by siblings Aaron  Williams and Nina Sadowski, who served as co-executives in the business.

“I knew Aaron and Nina to be good people with a good reputation,” Swick said. “I also knew they have a strong occasional line. When I heard they were closing, we made an immediate decision to reach out. The timing is tight, but we will have most, if not all, of Null’s product line on display in the Bernards showroom next week.”

Swick added that while plans are not finalized, Bernards also is looking to include the Null Furniture lineup in its occasional mixed container program.
