Howard Elliott adjusts pricing on China-made products

Select increases are related to new 20% tariffs on finished goods as well as double-digit tariffs on various components such as steel, aluminum and fabrics

ADDISON, Ill. — Accent furniture, mirror and accessories specialist Howard Elliott has informed customers it is raising prices on all China-made products because of recently implemented tariffs.

The company told customers in a communication issued this week that the move is in response to 20% tariffs on China, including a 10% tariff imposed the first week in February and a second 10% tariff imposed about a month later. Also in March, the U.S. government imposed a 25% tariff on steel and aluminum that will impact the cost of products with those materials.

Company President Brian Berk told customers that the company also is receiving letters regarding similar price hikes from fabric and other suppliers of materials used in products it produces domestically.

He said the company will initiate the price increases April 1 and noted that all the new prices will be posted on its website, www.howardelliott.com.

He noted that all pending in-stock orders shipped before April 1 will be invoiced at existing prices. Orders for products that are not in stock or that are not confirmed and released prior to April 1 will be subject to new prices, he added.

“We understand that price increases can be frustrating, and we haven’t made this decision lightly,” he said in a March 18 correspondence to customers. “We’ve absorbed as much of the increased cost as possible to minimize the impact on our customers. However, to maintain the quality of our products and continue providing you with the level of service you expect, we’ve had to make some difficult choices.”

In addition to posting all new prices on its website, new price lists can be forwarded via email upon request by calling 630-871-1122 or via updates@howardelliott.com.

“We value your business and appreciate your understanding in this matter,” Berk said. “We are confident that despite these adjustments, you will continue to find value in our products and services.”

He also noted that the company will “continue to monitor this fluid tariff situation and adjust our pricing to reflect the current conditions.”
