Belfort Furniture sees opportunity for growth with new distribution center

The 260,000-square-foot facility will allow the retailer to expand its in-stock inventory across all price points, enabling faster, more reliable in-home delivery

BERRYVILLE, Va. — It’s a new era for Belfort Furniture, one of the largest independent home furnishings retailers in the U.S. First opened in 1982 and headquartered in Dulles, Virginia, Belfort Furniture is known for its wide range of price points from ready-stock furniture to custom offerings, as well as for operating the largest furniture store in the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area, with 150,000 square feet of retail space.

Last week, Belfort Furniture announced a significant expansion of its operations with the acquisition of a 260,000-square-foot, 22-acre distribution center in Berryville, Virginia. The new facility triples the size of Belfort Furniture’s previous 83,000-square-foot facility, located in Sterling, Virginia, which the company recently sold.

This expansion will not only help Belfort Furniture grow its business in 2026, but in the years to come. Matthew Huber, president of Belfort Furniture, said that there have been opportunities to expand the showroom, but the company needed a larger warehouse first.

“Belfort Furniture is unique in that we have a showroom with one-of-a-kind products, market samples and things you can’t find elsewhere, which is important to us,” Huber said. “Having additional space will help us lean into those unique offerings we have.”

According to a news release from the company, the location of the new distribution center along Route 7 has several strategic geographic advantages. For one, it positions the company near what it refers to as “several rapidly growing markets,” including Winchester, Virginia, and Jefferson County, West Virginia. It also places Belfort’s distribution center within 500 miles of many of the furniture manufacturers it represents, including Bernhardt, England, Huntington House, Rowe Furniture, Stickley Furniture and Vaughan-Bassett.

Belfort Furniture also said that the facility will allow the company to significantly increase its in-stock inventory across all price points, enabling faster, more reliable in-home delivery while continuing to support customization options. Belfort Furniture delivers to more than 30,000 households annually throughout the DMV area (District of Columbia, Maryland and Virginia). The Berryville site will not only act as a distribution hub but will also eventually have an on-site furniture outlet.

While Belfort Furniture has its sights set on growth, Huber said the team was also an important consideration in its expansion plans.

“It’s exciting for us and it’s going to be a big project to get everything moved over in the coming months, but our team is ready to do it,” Huber added. “As we pass it along to our operations team, the majority of our current employees are going to be able to move to this location with us. We didn’t want to go too far afield because we have such a good team in place already.”

While the company works on transitioning from its old facility, the Berryville, Virginia, property is currently undergoing a multimillion-dollar renovation to ensure it meets Belfort Furniture’s “high standards for efficiency, safety and scalability,” according to a news release. In the spring, Belfort Furniture plans to host on-site warehouse sales at its Sterling, Virginia, facility, providing customers with an opportunity to purchase high-quality furniture at a discount.
