by SAN DIEGO, Calif. — Mor Furniture has announced that CEO Richard “Rick” Haux Jr. retired from the company after a distinguished 44-year career, effective Oct. 31. Under Haux’s leadership, Mor Furniture solidified its position as the largest family-owned and -operated furniture retailer on the West Coast, expanding to more than 40 stores across seven states.
Founded in 1977 by Richard Haux Sr., Mor Furniture remained a largely family-led company for nearly five decades. Haux joined the business early in his career and guided it through significant growth and transformation into a multistate operation recognized for its customer-first approach, value-driven model and strong community roots. His leadership earned widespread recognition, including the 2014 Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award (San Diego region, Family Business category) and a spot in the San Diego Business Journal’s Book of Influential Leaders in 2018.
During his tenure, Haux was instrumental in expanding the company’s retail footprint, notably leading its successful acquisition by supplier, Healthcare Co. Ltd. in 2020. The strategic partnership allowed the company to enhance efficiency, expand product offerings and better serve customers across the West Coast.

Mor Furniture’s executive leadership team is working closely alongside Healthcare Co. Ltd. on a transition plan to ensure continuity.
