Star Furniture, Hooker Furniture partner to support The Furniture Bank of Houston

HOUSTON — Star Furniture, a leader in home furnishings in Texas, recently partnered with trusted vendor Hooker Furniture to make a meaningful donation to The Furniture Bank of Houston, furthering its mission to “Make Empty Houses Homes” for families in need.

As part of Star Furniture’s rigorous quality control process, all merchandise—regardless of the manufacturer—is thoroughly inspected before being offered in showrooms. While some items are rejected due to quality concerns, others are declined for more cosmetic or logistical reasons, such as fabric choices that create shipping challenges. In these cases, the products are often still of excellent quality but are not the right fit for retail sale.

When such situations arise, valued vendor partners like Hooker Furniture often choose to donate merchandise rather than return it to the factory. This recent donation allowed The Furniture Bank to provide essential furnishings to families facing poverty, homelessness, domestic violence, and other hardships.

“At Hooker Furnishings, we believe our role extends beyond creating beautiful spaces—it’s about helping communities thrive,” said Cameron Sellers, vice president, marketing for Hooker Furniture. “Partnering with our valued retailers to support the places they call home is a natural extension of our mission. This donation reflects our commitment to standing beside those who make a difference every day, ensuring that together, we create a lasting and meaningful impact.”

“Hooker Furnishings was started with the generosity of the people of Martinsville, VA through the donation of land and funds to help create opportunities for the local residents,” added Matt Keepers, a local representative for Hooker Furniture. “101 years later, we continue to operate in the spirit of our humble beginnings, giving back to those in need whenever possible. In partnership with Star Furniture, we are proud to participate in helping the Houston community through their collaboration with the Houston Furniture Bank.”

The partnership between Star Furniture and The Furniture Bank ensures that donated products are either distributed directly to families or sold through The Furniture Bank’s main outlet, which upcycles furnishings and makes them affordable to those in need. The proceeds from these sales go directly toward funding the nonprofit’s operations, allowing them to continue serving the Houston community.

“Our heartfelt gratitude to Hooker Furniture for their generous donation to The Furniture Bank,” said Oli Mohammed, executive director of The Furniture Bank. “With the help of community-minded partners, we’ve been able to serve more than 30,000 families and recycle over 120,000 mattresses in the past 30 years.”

“Star Furniture is grateful to our vendor partner, Hooker Furniture, for supporting The Furniture Bank—and by extension, our community,” said Michael Galloway, VP of Marketing for Star Furniture. “We value both relationships as an example of how businesses and nonprofits can work together for the greater good.”
