HIGH POINT — Science in Design, the educational and marketing platform dedicated to highlighting the health-enhancing power of interior design, announces its upcoming symposium, “When Design Heals: How Interior Design Shapes Health.” Supported by High Point by Design, the event will take place on Friday, Oct. 24, during the October High Point Market.
This full-day event will bring together top experts, academics and scholars in neuroaesthetics, biophilia and design science to explore the profound impact of interior environments on human health and well-being. Renowned academics and thought leaders will lead dynamic seminars on topics including the health benefits of fractal patterning, the role of lighting in enhancing beauty and mood, and how nature-inspired design fosters both aesthetic appeal and healing.
In addition to groundbreaking scientific insights, the symposium will offer valuable business-focused sessions tailored for designers. Attendees will learn how to effectively integrate science into branding, websites and client communications — bridging the gap between research and real-world design practice.
Participants will also have the opportunity to engage directly with faculty from the Science in Design Certification program, gaining insights into further educational opportunities that reinforce their professional growth.
A New Era for the Design Industry
Neuroaesthetics, the study of how beauty affects the brain, and biophilic design, our innate connection to nature, are no longer fringe concepts. As these principles gain validation from the scientific community, interior design is being embraced as an “alternative health resource” — a striking evolution in how the profession is perceived.
“As the dialogue between science and design deepens, we’re witnessing a significant shift,” said Mike Peterson, founder of Science in Design. “Design is no longer viewed solely as an aesthetic discipline. It’s now being recognized as an essential contributor to mental, emotional and even physical health. All of us at Science in Design are honored to lead this important movement.”
As science increasingly influences the home furnishings and design industries, understanding its role in shaping a healthier, more human-centric future becomes essential. This symposium promises to be a milestone event for manufacturers, retailers and interior designers looking to expand their value through wellness-driven design.
Jane Dagmi, managing director of High Point by Design, said, “Anyone who follows us, knows we’re fans of Science in Design, the powerful relationship between design and health, and the profound implications this has for the home furnishings industry, for interior designers and architects, and for communities. We look forward to reconvening around this subject in October and all the fresh knowledge and insights the symposium will bring. “
