CPSC announces recall of 2 clothing storage units that pose tip-over, entrapment hazard

These include 1,293 Rolanstar dressers sold on Amazon and 170 dressers sold on Wayfair

WASHINGTON — The U.S. Consumers Product Safety Commission last week announced two recalls involving clothing storage units that pose tip-over and entrapment hazards that can injure and potentially kill children.

Published on the CPSC website May 22, they include the recall of 1,293 Rolanstar six-drawer dressers sold on Amazon and 170 six-drawer Sivan dressers sold on Wayfair.

While no injuries or incidents have been reported with either unit, the CPSC said that both are unstable if they are not anchored to the wall, which can result in tip-over and child entrapment that can cause injuries or death.

The CPSC also noted that the dressers violate the performance requirements of the STURDY (Stop Tip-Overs of Risky Dressers on Youth) Act because they can tip over with fewer than 60 pounds applied horizontally. It added that they also fail to meet the labeling requirements of the STURDY Act.

The CPSC has advised consumers to stop using the recalled dressers immediately if they are not anchored to the wall and place them in an area that children cannot access.

Manufactured by Fujian Ming Jin Household Technology Limited, of China, the units are being recalled by Areson Inc. of Tustin, California, through Amazon Logistics Service. Areson is contacting all known purchasers directly.
