Singapore furniture brand Castlery opening 1st US flagship store in New York

The showroom will debut in New York’s Chelsea neighborhood in May

NEW YORK — On May 15, Singaporean furniture brand Castlery will open its first U.S. flagship store in New York City. The 3,000-square-foot showroom will be located at 120 W. 18th St. in the city’s Chelsea neighborhood, known as a haven for design. Nearby showrooms include Haute Living, Lazzoni, Room & Board, Safavieh and West Elm.

The new store officially marks the company’s move from an e-commerce platform into a permanent retail presence in the U.S. Castlery was founded in 2013 by Declan Ee, a former investment banker, and Fred Ji, who has a background in tech, as a digital-first furniture lifestyle brand. Castlery offers a full range of furnishings, including sofas, tables, chairs, outdoor furniture and decor items such as rugs, mirrors and other accessories.

Since its founding, Castlery has expanded into Australia, where the brand operates showrooms in Brisbane and Sydney. Castlery also has a base in Anaheim, California, that is not consumer-facing. Ee and Ji had long set their sights on opening a showroom in New York, even scouting locations in Manhattan in 2018 before launching the brand’s U.S. e-commerce operations.

However, the pandemic forced a pause on those retail expansion plans. When the search resumed, the effort ultimately took two years and involved reviewing more than 200 listings across Manhattan.

“We said no many times,” Ee said. “Each viewing helped us clarify what we were really looking for — not just in terms of layout, but in feeling. When we found this space, it felt aligned. It felt like us. We’re excited to finally open our doors in New York.”

Now, with a 10-year lease signed, the brand is finally ready.

“New York isn’t a place you test; it’s a place you commit,” Ee said. “We’ve waited a long time to do this. Opening our first U.S. store here reflects how seriously we take the American customer and how seriously we take our craft. This isn’t about doing it fast. It’s about doing it right.”

According to a news release, the design of the flagship store “reflects a shared DNA between New York and Singapore: dense city living, design-literate consumers and real spatial constraints that demand thoughtful solutions.”

The showroom will feature 17 curated room sets, each designed to maximize square footage in a nod to New York life. In a statement, the company said: “The design language blends Eastern and Western influences in a way that feels distinctly Castlery yet grounded in its Manhattan context.” Rattan accents throughout the showroom nod to the company’s roots in Asia, while layered textures add warmth to the interiors. Castlery’s customers will also be offered complimentary, one-on-one interior styling consultations to assist with space planning and product selection.

Castlery’s new showroom will officially open on May 15, but during its opening weekend (May 15-17), customers will experience curated in-store activations and limited-edition goodie bags.
