by WHITSETT, North Carolina — Canadian RTA manufacturer Prepac Manufacturing has plans to cease operations at its 250,000-square-foot plant here, a move that will impact some 200 workers.
The layoffs impact nearly the entire team, including some 160 production staff as well as administrative and warehouse staff that work at its facility located at 3031 Hendren Road in Whitsett.
The company first opened the plant here around 2021. The facility represented an estimated investment of about $27.1 million.
Last spring the company announced a strategy to shift its North American manufacturing from British Columbia to the North Carolina plant, a move that impacted some 170 workers in its Canadian operations according to published reports.
The shift in manufacturing to North Carolina ultimately ended up placing its operations closer to its customer base in the U.S.
The layoffs are slated to take place by May 2 according to a WARN notice filed with the North Carolina Department of Commerce this week.
