John Thomas expands custom Select program

THOMASVILLE, N.C. — John Thomas Furniture, the casual dining and case goods division of Whitewood Industries, announced a significant expansion of its highly successful custom SELECT program, underscoring the company’s continued investment in capacity, efficiency and customization across solid wood furnishings.

This expansion builds upon Whitewood Industries’ 2017 purchase of its now-designated Plant Five facility, a 78,000-square-foot space originally intended solely for warehousing. In response to sustained growth and increased demand within the SELECT program, John Thomas Furniture has dedicated a portion of Plant Five to expanding custom finishing capabilities, allowing the company to better align production flow with evolving product categories.

Since 2015, John Thomas Furniture has operated two dedicated finishing facilities: Plant Two (63,000 square feet) and Plant Four (40,000 square feet). The addition of finishing operations at Plant Five enables the company to separate product types more strategically, recognizing that finishing and production requirements vary significantly between categories such as chairs and stools versus dressers and chests.

Bryan Sprinkles, vice president of product development at Whitewood Industries, said, “The SELECT program has always been about giving our customers flexibility without sacrificing craftsmanship, and this expansion allows us to deliver that promise faster and more efficiently than ever before.”

Under the expanded configuration, the company is able to improve workflow, shorten lead times and increase capacity at each plant without compromising the quality customers expect.

While John Thomas Furniture remains widely recognized for its leadership in casual custom dining, the company has experienced meaningful growth in additional categories including bedroom, occasional and accent furniture, storage and other whole-home solutions. The SELECT program is designed to meet these needs, offering solid wood products for virtually every room in the home.

The Plant Five expansion has already increased finishing capacity by approximately 20%, driven by both the added physical space and new production efficiencies. By separating product types across facilities, John Thomas Furniture has created stronger, more focused workflows that translate into faster, more reliable service for customers.

“Our customers are asking for customization in more categories and dependable lead times,” Sprinkles added. “This investment ensures we continue to meet that demand while maintaining our position as a leader in solid wood furnishings. The SELECT program remains one of the most customizable offerings in the marketplace. We are fully committed to preserving that standard as we grow.”
